Jealousy is a characteristic of the human condition. It is an acid that corrodes all of one’s sentiments. Once jealousy takes charge of one’s feelings, none of them can prevail. Jealousy destroys everything love creates.

       Jealousy implies insecurity and a sense of inferiority. What makes a person jealous is not the relationship his/her partner has with another person. His/her jealousy comes from his/her own insecurity. He/she is not sure if his/her partner loves him/her. That uncertainty torments the person and he/she becomes possessive.

       Jealousy also implies a sense of inferiority. Those who have this complex see in every person a potential rival, because anyone can be better than them. They are afraid that their partners will leave them as soon as they find a more suitable person.

       Jealousy is the most human of the sentiments. How can a divine being, the creator of all humanity, the only true god be jealous? What or who is he jealous of? Is he insecure? Does he feel inferior?

34:12 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:

34:13 But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:

34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

34:15 Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice;

       First of all, why do we call god, Yahweh or Jehovah when he calls himself Jealous? His name is Jealous because he is a jealous god. He is jealous of the Canaanite gods, the Philistine gods, the Hittite gods, etc. But why is he jealous of them? Is he not the true and only god? Is he not the creator of all things in the world, including those people? Why does he not do the same things he does for the Hebrews to all those nations?  Are they not his children, too?

       Of course not! Even though Genesis claims that all those peoples were begotten by Noah’s children, none of them knew of Yahweh or Jehovah. They all had gods but none of them was him. How was that possible?

       The truth is Jealous (A.K.A. Yahweh or Jehovah) did not create all people on earth. Those cultures have their own gods and he was competing against all of them. For him, they really existed. That was why he was jealous of them. If you notice, when Jealous (A.K.A. Yahweh or Jehovah) talks about those gods, he does not say, “Thou shalt worship no false god.” Instead, he says, “Thou shalt worship no other god.”  Those gods are his equals. Think about it, who is jealous of somebody that does not exist? He, the creator of all living and non living things in the world, had to know that there were no more gods. Even if those people worship them, since they were false gods, they would never make anything happen. But that was god’s problem. All those gods were granting wishes to the people who worshiped them, not all their wishes, but some were enough to keep the people’s faith in them.

       Now we have a problem. If those gods were false, how could they make people’s wishes come true? Was Jealous (A.K.A. Yahweh or Jehovah) involved in those miracles? I doubt it. Those people were receiving their favors way before Jealous (A.K.A. Yahweh or Jehovah) appeared on the religious scene.

The truth is no god was behind those deeds.

       As Comedian George Carlin says, "If you ask god to grant you some favors, you’ll get some and you’ll be denied others. If you do not ask him, you’ll still get some and will not get others, the odds are the same."

       I completely agree with that.

       A better way to exemplify this is comparing the Judeo-Christian religions to other religions around the world. When Taoists pray, sometimes they get want they ask for and sometimes they do not. The same happens when Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, etc. pray. They all get what they need, but not always. However, whatever they get is enough to keep their faith alive. I know Judeo-Christians will say that those people’s gods is Jealous (A.K.A. Yahweh or Jehovah) himself, the only difference being that they call him a different name. But I know that is not true. You will never see Jews praying to Allah in a mosque; Muslins praying to Jealous (A.K.A. Yahweh or Jehovah) in a synagogue; Buddhists praying to Jesus in a church, Mormons praying to Yahweh or Jehovah in a cathedral, Jehovah Witnesses praying to Jesus in a Mormon temple, or Catholics praying to Confucius in a pagoda; furthermore, none of them shift religions back and forth. That would be a sacrilege. That is the ultimate proof that they do not worship the same god.

       Now we know why Jealous (A.K.A. Yahweh or Jehovah) is a jealous god. His rivals could easily steal his children’s faith. That was why he was willing to kill them before letting them worship any of the other gods.

       God’s jealousy tells me that Moses was not talking to any god, and no god was talking to him. It was not god who was jealous; it was the Levites writing the bible who were. They were humans. They knew that the other gods in the promised land were as powerful as the god they were creating. The moment his brothers turned to those gods, they would lose their privileges. That was why they kept telling them to destroy all the other gods, so they could rest assured that their role in the Hebrew society would last forever.
